Dental treatment in the UK

In the past decade it has become evident that the United Kingdom is one of the most expensive places to have even the most basic dental treatment. With it costing on average one hundred and seventeen pounds for an adult to have a simple filling in a tooth you can see why it is beneficial for people to have insurance to cover these events. Throughout Europe it can cost from ten pounds (Hungary) to one hundred pounds (UK) for a fillings.

So even if your teeth are in pretty good condition and you do not need treatments it is worth finding out what your local dentist charges because if you have a nasty surprise and no insurance your wallet will take the brunt of the news. If you have a young family it is even more advisable to have cover for your (potential) dental treatments. To provide a good example to your children you should be bringing them to the dentist regularly. You would not want to be putting this off for fear of the dental bill would you??

Quite often dental insurance covers emergencies cover emergencies and accidents. Usually in these cases you can visit a private or NHS dentist due to the urgency of the circumstances. A lot of policies will include worldwide cover with this ‘accident and emergency’ bracket which will provide you a great deal of security knowing no holiday you have been looking forward to for months will be plagued with toothache.

What most insurance companies ask for is that you receive your treatment first and pay for it. It is crucial you keep am itemized receipt detailing exactly what treatment you had and paid for. You will then have to download a claim form from the insurance company’s web site or request over the telephone. Once you have this you will fill it out, do not miss out any detail as this will slow you claim down. If there are no discrepancies the insurance companies should pay out within ten to fourteen working days.
